Rory Gallagher - Liberty Hall, Houston, TX 1974

Joe Bonamassa recently released The Spirit Of Rory Live From Cork, a tribute to Rory Gallagher fully comprised of tracks from the Irish guitarist's catalogue.
It was recorded with the blessing of Gallagher’s family and performed with three sold-out dates in Gallagher’s hometown of Cork and featured a guest appearance by Gerry McAvoy, Rory’s long-time bass player, who joined Joe on stage for Bullfrog Blues.
So, hearing and reading about that very nice effort was the perfect excuse to get back to some old Rory stuff.
In this case a concert at the Liberty Hall in Houston in 1974, same year as the classic live album Irish Tour '74 was released.

Sound Quality: 9-

Source: FM Broadcast

Track List:

01 - Messin' With The Kid
02 - Cradle Rock
03 - Just A Little Bit
04 - Early In The Morning
05 - Tattoo'd Lady
06 - Hands Off
07 - Pistol Slapper Blues
08 - Too Much Alcohol
09 - A Million Miles Away
10 - Bullfrog Blues

Well this might start an argument and I have said before how I do not care for Joe Bonamassa very much but I take what Attic Rock says to heart and I am sure folks in Rory’s homeland appreciated someone playing ANY Rory tunes so well beloved of his fans but I am sorry . . . . .Rory he aint!

I know it is said 'comparison are odious' but puhleeze! This is how it’s done! TURN IT UP!

I always thought someone like Rory should have given Joe lessons but hey!

  1. Of course the definitive version of "Tattoo'd Lady" is on Irish Tour, the guitar solo after the last verse still amazes me. He plays it so effortlessly, like he's drinking a glass of water while at the same time makes it sound like two guitars playing at the same time. Good for Joe for keeping Rory's name out there, but he really does pale in comparison. The only other guitar player out there that keeps me as entertained as Rory is Robin Trower this man has never played a wasted note either
