Bonnie Raitt

from BEHIND THE GROOVES: a music blog by Jeff Harris
On this day in music history: March 21, 1989 - “Nick Of Time”, the tenth album by Bonnie Raitt is released. Produced by Don Was, it is recorded at Ocean Way Studios, Capitol Studios, Hollywood Sound in Hollywood, CA, and The Record Plant in Los Angeles, CA from Mid - Late 1988. Her first album for new label Capitol Records, it follows nearly two decades with Warner Bros Records which produced several critically acclaimed but modest selling albums. Working with Was (Not Was) bassist turned producer Don Was, he assembles a group of top notch musicians including members of Raitt’s own touring band along with studio veterans including Ricky Fataar (drums) and Paulinho Da Costa (percussion) as well as other guests such as Herbie Hancock (keyboards), John Jorgenson (guitar), and David Crosby (background vocals). It initially gets off to slow start but gains momentum throughout the year. The album wins three Grammy Awards including Album Of The Year in 1990. It spends three weeks at number one on the Billboard Top 200, topping the chart exactly one year after making its debut. “Nick Of Time” is certified 5x Platinum in the US by the RIAA.
Not my favourite Bonnie Raitt album but it's up there in the top three or so, this is more poppy and less bluesy based but Bonnie still have her signature slide to the fore which is worth a wallow. Aint' she great?!
