Tom Wolfe's 'The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test' was a seminal work for me and informed my early embryonic intellect alongside Kerouac, Leary, Carlos Castaneda and Leonard Cohen ['Beautiful Losers'] he stood as authors I discovered for myself. Not part of the library at home and not text books these authors spoke to my teenage emerging radicalisation.
