BIX BEIDERBECKE

One of the things I shared with my mother was a passion for the music of the dance halls in the early 1900s and especially the 1920s and 30's. We adored the soundtrack to 'Pennies From Heaven' the series written by Dennis Potter though if that programme actually proved too racy for her the music of Bix Beiderbecke we loved too and I bought her loads over the years for it never ceased to make her smile

Born on this day: March 10, 1903 - Jazz music icon Bix Beiderbecke (born Leon Bismark Beiderbecke in Davenport, IA). Happy Birthday to this legendary jazz cornetist, and one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century, born 116 years ago today, and taken far too young at the age of 28 on August 6, 1931.
