LITTLE FEAT - Rock ’N’ Roll Doctor! Gary Lucas recommends !

LITTLE FEAT - Rock ’N’ Roll Doctor!

now I am not the greatest fan of Little Feat despite buying Dixie Chicken as a single when it come out and I really don’t know why and I fully expect shock and horror from my regulars but I don’t know what it is. . .  they just don’t grab me and they always leave me wanting . . . . . Gary loved them, Bonnie (Raitt) loved them, heck every rocker and slide fan loves ‘em . . . .except this one! Sorry! I’ll get me coat!

as recommended by Gary Lucas (on his Flickennabok page)
well you gots to follow Garry who says "one of my favorite songs, and the slide solo by Lowell is out of this world” which frankly coming from one of the planet’s finest guitarists is praise indeed!

  1. Yup, I too don't know why you don't like the feat. I would've thought they were right up your street, and I remember we've discussed this before sometime. For what it's worth, this is one of my all-time fave albums. You really should check out Lowells' slide on Cold Cold Cold/Tripe Face Boogie medley - it's frighteningly brilliant. No really. It is. Oh well (now, there's a song!) we're all different and that's what makes the world go around!! Keep up the great work neighbour. DD

  2. Thought this would rattle a cage or two! I genuinely don’t know what it is!? I do know the numbers you speak of in medley format and ‘appreciate’ nay even ‘enjoy' them . . . they just don’t grab me . . . . . . once I heard Ry Cooder I was DONE! Heck I place Sonny Landreth WAY above Lowell and what the heck happened to HIM?! . . . . . [wait’s for bricks hurtling past the window!] Thanks for helping the world go round Neighbour!

  3. Well, well. I'm in the MASSIVE FAN category. I'll just leave this thought for now....
The first side of "Sailing Shoes" is as near a perfect album side as you can find..............

  5. yeah..well..it does tail off a little.......
In terms of whole albums Shoes would rank third for me after Dixie Chicken and Feat's Don't Fail. And huge fan or not when Lowell's influence waned..for me the Feat did too.
Can you excuse me another anecdote/name dropping??? We got an interview with Bill Payne when they were in Brum in '76 and did "meet" Lowell in the hotel lift!!!
Went along to the soundcheck too which was a pretty neat experience
