Georgia Stomp from Gary Lucas this morning!
Now we have established Gary really knows his stuff and I am not just saying that as his taste so frequently crosses mine own but I mean REALLY knows his early blues and music ever since as well! I didn’t know these two and it warmed my cockles (it’s allowed!)
Andrew Baxter (born 1869) played the fiddle, while his son Jim Baxter (born 1898) played the guitar and sang. The duo hailed from Gordon County, Georgia.They recorded notable sides for Victor Records in Charlotte, North Carolina (1927–1928) and Atlanta, Georgia (1929). Their music, such as “Georgia Stomp” and “Forty Drops,” was later featured on Harry Smith’s influential Anthology of American Folk Music.
