HOLA MOLA!
As we enjoy the last of the summer sun and get ready for school and another week here’s a creature for you!
Face to face with the heaviest bony fish in the world, the mola mola, or ocean sunfish, (accompanied by a species infrequently found in Southern California, the pilotfish)!
The largest mola on record, discovered deceased off the Azores Archipelago in December 2021, weighed 6,049 lb (2,744 kg). 432 stone or nearly three tons!That's equivalent to the weight of a white rhino. 
And the mind-boggling facts don't end there... Molas are capable of releasing a staggering 300 million eggs in a single spawning season – a feat unparalleled among vertebrates. Unfortunately, the survival rate of tiny mola eggs is extremely low, and only a tiny fraction of the eggs will actually grow into adults.
Captain Beefheart (Don Van Vliet - a child prodigy for carving his beloved animals) when once asked what his favourite fish was he immediately responded without hesitation "the Sunfish!" Nobody really knew to what he was referring and went out and checked! You can see why?
