Speedy says: and frankly he is bang on here . . . Angry Joe well worth collecting, smooth jazzy Cole Porteresque Joey Jay not so much "I've seen Joe Jackson on 3 occasions - in February 1981, in August 1980 and then in October 1982. When I saw him that final time he was in the midst of making the transition from angry punk rocker to an artist playing tunes influenced by Cole Porter, jazz and big band music.

I've always preferred Angry Joe, and this FM Broadcast captures him during those early punk days, in Amsterdam on June 17, 1979, 47 years ago today. Having finished his first US tour on June 1, 1979,  Jackson returned to Europe, playing dates in Netherlands, Belgium, France, Switzerland and the UK in support of his debut album, Look Sharp. That disc had been released in the UK in January 1979, and then in the US, in April of that same year. Propelled by the single Is She Really Going Out With Him, which climbed to #21 on the Billboard Charts, the album did one better, reaching the #20 position. "
