Speedy says:
The Band were part of the 1994 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class, along with John Lennon, the Grateful Dead, The Animals, and Bob Marley, just to name a few other inductees that year. While Robbie Robertson was in attendance, Levon Helm decided not to show up due to long running issues with Robertson. Eric Clapton handled the induction speech and also sat in with the groupo when they performed The Weight. This TV soundboard recording captures The Band on Saturday Night Live on October 30, 1976, a half century ago today. Less than a month later, they would play the legendary LAst Waltz concert in San Francisco, retiring from live performing. Of course, that turmed out to be just temporarly, as 4/5 of the group (all but Robertson) reunited in 1983.
