Van Morrison - 1985-05-18 - Capitol Theatre, PASSAIC New Jersey - So Many Roads

Now I know I have been super critical of the Celtic Curmudgeon of late  but that's not going to stop me enjoying the (past) music and this is worth an enquiry. Mind you after listening I am not uncrtitical! The medley of pop 'hits' is almost show band in its cursory verses and you get the feeling of it being to shut the crowd up who shout for Brown Eyed Girl, or Here Comes the Night and Gloria incessantly but that this is in aid of his concentrating on the mid period mystical work here is a given but it is almost laughable. The super club jazz big band sound lends itself to a phrase or chorus or two with their hoakey endings is almost excruciating. The quality here more than makes up for it though and this is well worth exploring.
