again another blast from the past and when Alan Price left the Animals I was distraught until hearing him cover Randy Neman (Simon Smith & His Amazing Dancing Bear) and others . . . . an interesting (always) song choice until the success of O Lucky Man which I thought was totally hokey . . . . his r’n’B roots still out and the work done with the Animals is without equal in my opinion .
Oh you wanna know how I found out about John Lee Hooker and the boogie rhythm ’n' blues masters?
THE ANIMALS!
1965
These guys can REALLY play - check out Chas’ bass playing and yes, that is Alan Price on organ who could play anything (check him out in D.A. Pennebaker's Don’t Look Back with Bobby) and the guitar Hilton Valentine and drummer, John Steel, are no slouches either but it is Eric singing Boom Boom, House of the Rising Sun, Dimples, Send You Back To Walker and that was how I heard all those songs when we bought The Most of The Animals when it came out!
Love me the Beat Boom! British R ’n’ B!
Right here
Boom Boom!
I was 13 and then I started buying all the blues sounds I could find for my pocket money and paper round sometimes as much as 12/6d! Josh White, John Lee, Big Bill, Memphis Slim, Little Joe Cook (Chris Farlowe!), Leadbelly and more besides - all pretty much thanks to Eric and the boys!
For the boys who dropped by . . . . . tcw3 and Kostas!
The Animals at Ready Steady Go!
Performing their first single "Baby Let Me Take You Home"
B Side to Alan’s Hit now sadly wildly racist hit single and given that it still show one of the only clips from TOTP featuring notorious serial sexual predator and child abuser, the execrable Jimmy Savile ‘Don’t Stop The Carnival’ we will play this in stead! . . . . . .
So he also covered Randy Newmanwhich showed some brighter intelligence and clearer foresight!
