Song of the Day (Dance of the Day?) - COLINDA : Doug Sahm with The Sir Douglas Quintet

Doug Sahm with the Sir Douglas Quintet - Colinda (1970)

From the odds and sods LP Rough Edges, here’s a Cajun flavoured tune from Sir Doug.

One of my very favourite Cajun dance tunes! From my discovering the folk music of the area from Cajun to Nawleans, R ’n’ B to Zydeco Clifton Chenier et al and hearing bands like Companions of the Rosy Hours live in Kent at Broadstairs Folk Festival way back when, I have loved the authentic sound of Cajun roots music and this is the same fan music from the legendary Doug Sahm and The Sir Douglas Quintet

UPDATE:
and of course the link above doesn’t work (anybody?!) but here ’tis!

I threw a garden party around the time of the first Artweek in Oxford and had

something to do with it's inception as I had started the Oxford Artist's Group

with fine local painter, Andy Walton and others so we threw a party on

the opening day and largely played Louisiana Rock n Roll, Rhythm and Blues and, Fais Do Do

wouldn't ya know, lots of Cajun music too.

I had enjoyed Clifton Chenier thanks to John Northcote over at Sunshine records

in town and loved the sound of Zydeco which made me want

to research earlier and earlier work
