MICHAEL HURLEY - R.I.P. [- Sweet Lucy (1976) You Got To Find Me]

Sweet Lucy - Michael Hurley (1976)

"This song comes from Have Moicy!, which is one of my all time favorite records, featuring Peter Stampfel of the Holy Modal Rounders (billed as the Unholy Modal Rounders), Michael Hurley, and Jeffrey Frederick & the Clamtones.

My father is also a Michael Hurley and also a musician, so for his birthday last week I sent him a copy of Moicy! since he had never heard it.

Papa Hurley has met his namesake a couple times over years at various venues. They took a photo together once that I’m trying to dig up so I can frame it and look at it every morning and night. If I find it, I’ll throw it up here for all you Moicy fanatics. All two of you, anyway.

Reblogging because this is one of the greatest songs of all time.

If you haven’t heard MOICY, get ON IT!”   (via nedison)

I wasn’t going to post these but Michael Hurley who has passed away at 83 didn’t seem to travel across to Europe so well so I figured nobody had heard of him over here but heck . . . . .despite us having posted things before and I too hadn’t heard of him til only quite recently I am ashamed to say but any loss to music is worthy of noting and I included this for his fans here . . . . . . I like this down homey country mewsic!

You Got To Find Me  . . so we did Michael so we did. Its on Rounder so it must be worth a listen

MICHAEL HURLEY? - 'BE KIND TO ME'

You guys know Michael Hurley? We like him . . . . . . . unique voice and really particular take on songs and songwriting . . . . . .one of kind was made for the likes of him!

Michael Hurley could be called the godfather, or grandfather, of ‘freak-folk” but the Oregon-based singer, songwriter, artist and storyteller’s roots go back to his childhood in rural Pennsylvania and early forays into New York City, where he found kindred spirits like Peter Stampfel, Sam Shepard and the Holy Modal Rounders. The 2019 inductee into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame has, in recent years, been embraced by the likes of Devendra Banhart and Byron Coley, both of whom have released his albums on their labels. But all along, Hurley has marched to his own drummer, as a truly original American artist. Gregory Daurer spoke with Hurley about his unconventional life for PKM.
