Quicksilver Messenger Service: Studio and contemporary live albums 1968 - 1975 Part 1 URBANASPIRINES

Kostas has done his usual excellent profile again on the legendary Quicksilver Messenger Service here the links to part One so we look forward to the second part in due course but it will be worth a read and really worth checking out the music.

I came to them latish (after Grateful Dead I think) and Dino and John especially feature latterly in my panoply of fine musicians, the tragic Nicky Hopkins I had been aware of and of course the guys like Freiberg and Murray and Naftalin on keyboards equally added to the legend. I think I bought Happy Trails first and still have my early vinyl version and it stays a favourite but the guitar work is fascinating from all the works available. This will be FUN!

QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE

So for some reason (I think it was Dino Valenti's birthday or something . . . . ) I was checking out the reformed Quicksilver Messenger Service live at Winterland 1975 in San Francisco and admiring Dino Valenti's vocals and admiring the guitar work and ruminating as to how good they were as contemporaries of many similar SF bands like the Grateful Dead and Big Brother and Jefferson Airplane even Country Joe and The Fish. These guys could smoke it up! Three great guitarists actually who I had forgotten how good they were and check out Michael Lewis here (not Nicky Hopkins) on keyboards and ARP synth. If you listen to just one track try 'Fresh Air' such a classic song and reminds me of Spirit and 'Fresh Garbage' too!

Fresh Air
