MONICA DOLAN - DESERT ISLAND DISCS July 2025

Oh my God, she's been buried!': Mr Bates star Monica Dolan on Paula Vennells, playing heroes and villains, and why TV is getting more generic | Baftas | The Guardian

The wonderful Monica Dolan was on Desert Island Discs this week and a suitably eclectic list she made of it . . . . a favourite was this from Butch Cassady and The Sundance Kid which she recalled she and her family (friends) sang in her garden once! I am sure this is true!

As an actor there is seemingly nothing she can’t do from the comic Welsh woman on W12 to killer Rose West! She should be in EVERYTHING!

DISC ONE: The Tra La La Song (One Banana, Two Banana) - The Banana Splits
DISC TWO: That's Entertainment - The Jam
DISC THREE: Nothing - Priscilla Lopez (as Diana Morales), A Chorus Line Orchestra, conducted by Don Pippin
DISC FOUR: Love and Affection - Joan Armatrading
DISC FIVE: MacArthur Park - Richard Harris
DISC SIX: The Night - Diane Chorley
DISC SEVEN: Us Amazonians - Kirsty MacColl *
DISC EIGHT: South American Getaway (From "Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid") - Burt Bacharach

BOOK CHOICE: Encyclopaedia of Flora and Fauna
LUXURY ITEM: A walk-in wardrobe with cool glass of champagne every time it was opened!) CASTAWAY'S FAVOURITE: Love and Affection - Joan Armatrading

She also chose a Kirsty MacColl song and it really moved me to hear it again . . . . .

not the obvious Kirsty choice but then there is nothing OBVIOUS about our Mon!

if you play one song today - PLAY THIS!
