Diego Rivera on Frida Kahlo

Ever wonder why Frida loved Diego so fiercely that she married him twice?

“Todas las frutas había en el jugo de tus labios, la sangre de la granada, el tramoto del mamey y la piña acrisolada. Te oprimí contra mi pecho y el prodigio de tu forma penetró en toda mi sangre por la yema de mis dedos. [sic]”

"All the fruits were in the juice of your lips, the blood of the pomegranate, the sap of the South American apricot, and the ripest pineapple.

I pressed you against my chest, and the wonder of your form penetrated my entire blood through the tips of my fingers”

 (forgive my translation)

- Diego Rivera on Frida Kahlo!

And you know what? She did! As a teenage school girl she dressed on occasion in a three piece male tweed suit! Whether through her affairs with Nikolas Murray (photographer) or Tina Modotti (artist /photographer/model) or husband Diego Rivera (Mexican Muralist artist) who as I say she married twice!  With her trademark mono-brow and moustache Frida is beloved today of the LGBTQ non-binary community though her work and indeed lifestyle defies categorisation or labels

a truly unique and singular voice in painting and art history
