Paul Simon + Ladysmith Black Mambazo - “Diamonds on The Soles Her Shoes” [Graceland] 1986

 “Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes” is a song by American singer Paul Simon. It was released as a single in 1987 from his seventh studio album, Graceland (1986).  The song features guest vocals from the South African male choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

“Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes” was written when Simon went to South Africa. While he was there, he gathered various music from locals. Upon returning to New York in the spring of 1986, Simon finished the album with the artists that came back with him from South Africa. But "Diamonds" wasn’t originally planned for inclusion on Graceland.  It was only after Simon and Ladysmith Black Mambazo performed the song on the May 10th episode of Saturday Night Live that Simon decided to delay the planned July release date of the album to do a full studio recording (and accompanying music video) of the track and include it on the record.
