boygenius - Coachella, Indio, 2023
Love Phoebe Bridgers many (three and counting?) projects?, bands?, incarnations but how does she DO that?
Here the trio on fire from Spring this year a different date from the previous posting so enjoy the extra treat! (How long did Coachella go on for?! I thought it was a festival?! Anybody?)
This is the set from April 15th the previous one is dated a week later April 22, 2023 - enjoy!
Rhian Daly, thefortyfive.com:
Huddled around one microphone, Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker sing in beautiful harmony ‘Without You Without Them’, the opening song from their debut album ‘the record’. It’s a moment that sets the tone for the rest of the show - the three musicians always united, even if they’re spread across the stage.
Lyrically, ‘the record’ is full of intense emotions and seeing boygenius bring them to life on stage is all the more impactful; like that punch in the stomach Bridgers sings of in ‘Letter To An Old Poet’. But, instead of leaving you feeling triggered and bereft from your own personal trauma the songs remind you of, the band have a way of making you feel comforted. They barely say a word on stage, but seeing these women turn their own experiences into such a moving, flawless performance is like them throwing their arms around you and letting you lean on them, just like the billboard poster.
When they do take a moment to speak, it’s to deliver an important message – and another kind of support. “I don’t know if you’ve seen the tomfoolery that’s been going on in Florida and Missouri and some of the other places, but trans lives matter, trans kids matter,” Dacus tells the crowd to big cheers. “We’re going to fight it and we’re going to win.”
Before they continue with the music, Bridgers adds an extra point. “And abortion rocks, and fuck [Florida governor] Ron DeSantis.”
A few songs later, ‘Not Strong Enough’ begins, bright guitars spooling through the PA. “I don’t know why, I am/The way I am/Not strong enough to be your man,” they sing as the chorus hits. Tonight, though, boygenius are pillars tough enough for themselves, each other, and all of Coachella, inadvertently forming the best support group around.

This is a fix to one that Big O posted back in January this year and all the more welcome for that.
NOTE: Should anyone be even remotely interested the funny little schoolboy trolls pretending to be me are not ME! As if I needed to tell you. I visit Big O daily along with a load of fellow music bloggers [principally FLOPPY BOOT STOMP and VOODOO WAGON] to check out the postings and download music but I don’t post on the comments there anymore! Why would anyone?!
It would be funny were it not so desperately sad . . . . . . I wouldn't even mind if they were funny, but they drone on and on with the same comments. Ad nauseam. Merely tiresome and nothing to do with music. If you can bear it, go and download the fine eclectic range of music the guys ( from Singapore) post there. Some real gems and this is no exception
Again I should point out my wonderful daughter turned me onto Phoebe Bridgers and her several band incarnations and another favourite artist Emily Barker (I think I have everything by her) even pointed Phoebe out [check the links to her old coffee posts!] https://youtu.be/nij8Aj9oqUQ
NB these links should play but be warned they will only be available whilst Big O make it so and they often take them down after a while to save on their bandwidth (obvs) so play them here if that works but download 'em now before thy become unavailable if you are a fan!

another from Phoebe Bridgers and it is worth saying that I was turned on to her through my daughter* and that is part of what is so cool when your children suggest listening to someone who we both end up enjoying . . . . . . Phoebe is right up top there!

Corona Capital is an annual three-day celebration held at the Autodrome Hermanos Rodrigues – a colossal Formula One racetrack in the heart of the world’s eighth largest metropolis, Mexico City. The extensive facilities, elaborate stages and vendor set-ups, combined with an unparalleled line-up, all came together to create a singular, extraordinary event, Friday-Sunday, November 18th-20th.
Phoebe Bridgers… gave a heartfelt performance. She drew energy from the sizable crowd and, in turn, inspired their overall happy mood. Fan favorites like “Emotional Motion Sickness” brought the audience to their feet as she and her skeleton onesie-clad band completed their set. - qromag.com

This young lady has the dubious honour of being in the increasing list (and getting longer) of artists introduced to me by my children, this time my daughter who is a fan of Phoebe's work and I can understand why from this.
Go to Big O if you want to download it and can avoid the torrent of filth that is the comments section!
The links below, track by track, should work too!

Phoebe Bridgers made her Coachella debut. During her Friday evening set, Bridgers played music from her 2020 album Punisher, brought out Arlo Parks for duets of “Graceland Too” and “I Know the End,” and sang her new song “Sidelines” live.
Coachella is one of the stops on Bridgers’ 2022 tour. She is playing North American shows through mid-June when she will hop overseas for a series of European and UK dates, including a show at Glastonbury. Bridgers will return to the United States in August for more concerts. - pitchfork.com

This Monday morning’s Music + Coffee combo...
One of my favourite record stores in the UK is a shop called 'Music's Not Dead' in Bexhill-on-Sea. Not only is the shop-owner, Del an incredibly lovely human, he's also incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about music. Through these qualities a community has formed around the shop and they regularly host in-store shows - the likes of which I have played many times over the years!
I can't wait to head there when it's safe to do so to browse the shelves and play some new music to the Bexhill folks. I ordered this new release by Phoebe Bridgers called 'Punisher' from Del’s shop and am pleased to say that it's just as stunning as her debut 'Stranger in the Alps'. This week's coffee is from a Stroud-based company called Shipped by Sail who import goods that can't be grown in the UK and freight them in via old, engineless sailing ships thus making it emission-free!
This dark roast is from Colombia and was grown by smallholder farmers around the central Andean village of Salgar. It's mightily yummy.
Here's me in my kitchen making a brew to Phoebe's new record: https://youtu.be/nij8Aj9oqUQ Enjoy your day!Emily x
