The Yardbirds - Over Under Sideways Down | Blues.In.Colour

now we mentioned Over Under Sideways Down the other day and the family joke it became (at my expense I hasten to add!) here another clip and don’t they all look smart!?  Check out the line up Jimmy and Jeff! with Page on bass after Chris Dreja unexpectedly quit

The Yardbirds shown here live on the 22nd July 1966 at the Music Hall de France.

In June 1966, founding bassist Paul Samwell-Smith abruptly left the band. Jimmy Page who’d previously turned down the lead guitar spot before it went to Beck agreed to step in on bass as a temporary fix. Once rhythm guitarist Chris Dreja learned the bass parts, Page switched over to guitar, creating a formidable twin-lead guitar assault alongside Beck.
Keith Relf: Vocals and harmonica Jeff Beck: Lead guitar Chris Dreja: Rhythm guitar Jimmy Page: Bass Jim McCarty: Drums
The footage and audio capture the band at a chaotic, high-energy peak in the summer of 1966, shortly after the release of their acclaimed album Roger the Engineer (released simply as The Yardbirds in the UK).
The Yardbirds didn’t have a rigid, massive European tour in 1966. Instead, they played dozens of chaotic club dates across the UK and made short, targeted television and festival jaunts into mainland Europe—including France (such as this Music Hall de France session), Italy (Sanremo Music Festival), and Belgium.
The dual-guitar lineup completely fractured during an October 1966 US tour. Suffering from exhaustion, illness, and a famously volatile temper, Jeff Beck failed to show up to multiple gigs and was fired, leaving Page as the sole lead guitarist."
