 Rubén González "Introducing..." 1997

Rubén González (born May 26, 1919, Santa Clara, Cuba - died December 8, 2003, Havana, Cuba) was a Cuban pianist...
...He was a legend in Cuban music and counted as one of the most influential pianists of the music style Son. He became internationally known in the 1990's through Ry Cooder's Buena Vista Social Club and afterwards released two albums. - discogs
tracks:
  • 1 La Engañadora
  • 2 Cumbanchero
  • 3 Tres Lindas Cubanas
  • 4 Melodía Del Río
  • 5 Mandinga
  • 6 Siboney
  • 7 Almendra
  • 8 Tumbao
  • 9 Como Siento Yo
I think of all the stars of The Buena Vista Social Club we all bought via Ry Cooder’s inspired research and maybe because he was a fellow pianist from whom I always take inspiration it was Rubén Gonzalez’s story and style that impressed me the most. The story of Ry sorting out his access to a concert grand piano (Ruben had lived his last several years without one in Cuba) meant he couldn't stop playing it for over four hours straight filled my heart with joy. The first solo album was done in one sitting!
