Missed a Birthday! . . . Paul Brady May 19 1947

Happy Birthday Paul Brady, born May 19, 1947.

Now in the past I have usually posted the film Paul made about the song 'Arthur McBride' and follow that with one of my all time favourite songs by him ‘Life Is What You Make It’ from the Jools Holland show where I first discovered him . . . but here are alternate version a young, YOUNG Paul back in 77 and another one from the Jools’ set Crazy Dreams - another favourite song, follow the links to the other songs . . . .

Someone else dreams will get you nowhere . . . . . one of the finest love songs ever written IMHO

A favourite song for the longest time and the version with full band on Jools’ Later is a favourite performance of it
One of Irelands best song writers in my humble opinion

Paul Brady - Arthur McBride

A song for to rouse us from Christmas morning you say? . . . . . . . . why of course that calls for a tale of some rowdy dow-dow when English Soldiers tried in vain to raise recruits to the Queens Army from the Irish . . . . . . . . . .

One for my Gaelic roots unashamedly!

Long gathering dust on a shelf this is Tiernan McBride's 1977 film of Paul Brady's song 'Arthur McBride'.
A wonderful document of a wonderful song.

SONG OF THE DAY

 PAUL BRADY

'CRAZY DREAMS'

One of the finest appearances on 'Later With Jools' (Holland that is back in 1996) in my opinion!

and bringing it right up to date . . . . . .

SMILE - 2021
This is part of a globally streamed Paul Brady concert as part of the 'Imagining Ireland' live streaming series, no audience in the room, from Dublin's National Concert Hall on Nov 7th 2020. Thanks also to Culture Ireland and the National Concert Hall.

and perhaps my all time favourite song of Paul's again here taken and played around with from the same set on Later with Jools in 1996 'The World Is What You Make It' [play it at my wake!]

PAUL BRADY

Paul Brady is one of my favourite singer songwriters and I like to keep in touch with his website to see what he is up to. He has performed many of my favourite songs of all time and to pay respects to my Irish roots (on my mother's side of the family) this song stirs me in ways I can only guess at the origins thereof; injustice, revenge and the oppression of one folk by another . . . . a cracking tale and though it may have touch of the blarney about it, I choose to believe it is true and while wishful thinking it may be, I believe it happened this way . . . . . .

and I will bid you 'Goodnight' with this one . . . . . . .

a personally favourite performance I just can't resist posting this every time I hear it
