Tracks of My Tears! SATURDAY SOUNDS | Well songs of the Day from guest source NEBULOUSLY BURNISHED!!!

I think most if not all of this morning’s posts are from one of my two favourite picture bloggers and this one is from NEBULOUSLY BURNISHED who I have been following for the longest time and I only just realised a couple of things and that is she has been posting pictures of herself lately! and that: She is a young woman! I don’t think I ever really thought much about what gender the poster was but it threw me somehow! Mudwerks who I also follow religiously (sic!) he posts music of his own and picture resources ad infinitum somehow all the time and more and faster than I!) He was clearly a chap as he used a picture of himself but Nebulously . . .  I didn’t really think was a gal!? Why? What is THAT all about! When I saw her picture I was so pleasantly surprised it made my day somehow! WEIRD !

Today she has posted the following great tracks:

She starts the day with this . . . bear with me an ear worm I know and whilst I am not so much of a later Bee Gees fan (it’s all that falsetto!) this is classic film track and no mistake . . . . .

I wonder if he means Johnson or Fanning? I like both so it’s all good!

awesome song, heartfelt and moving . . . . about his wife?!

and this indeed is she!

TWO DARK CLASSICS! GRINDERMAN 1 & 2 [2007 + 2010]| URBANASPIRINES

Grinderman 2007 + 2010 - URBANASPIRINES

After Nick Cave’s heartfelt and staggering performance of Rainy Night In Soho for Shane MacGowan’s funeral last week comes this timely look at the two Grinderman productions!

Well done Kostas (as ever) and I love the Antipodean wunderkind maestro of the darker side. Like he needed another band apart from the Bad Seeds to fully express himself! Stuck sending tapes he formed a band to revisit working upon songs with a live band and HEY PRESTO!

This will do it!

Grinderman was an Australian-American rock band that formed in London, England, in 2006.

The band included Nick Cave (vocals, guitar, organ, piano), Warren Ellis (tenor guitar, electric mandolin, violin, viola, guitar, backing vocals), Martyn P. Casey (bass, guitar, backing vocals) and Jim Sclavunos (drums, percussion, backing vocals).

EMILY BARKER (& LUKAS DRINKWATER) 'Room 822' New Video - 'Push The Sky Away'

The wonderful new lockdown album 'Room 822' from Emily Barker and her fellah Lukas Drinkwater when in quarantine on their trip to Emily's home of Australia I mentioned earlier on its release and was going to talk about it track by track but frankly it is somewhat redundant somehow . . . except perhaps the song I play the most lately is their cover of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds' song 'Push The Sky Away' her notes here on Youtube are self explanatory but it is a fine, fine delicately fashioned version and hauntingly well supported by Lukas on basses of different kinds and subtle backing vocals. I just love that one can (well they can!) record things of this kind of quality in a contemporary hotel room. Frankly it is breathtaking  . . . . . . . . .

Emily says on Facebook:
We knew we were going to do a Nick Cave cover but the difficult question was which one to choose? An obvious choice might have been to do ‘Where the Wild Roses Grow’, but we weren’t sure we could do something different or interesting enough. We brainstormed how we might cover ‘Red Right Hand’ and even worked out a key for, and started rehearsing ‘The Mercy Seat’ but the outstanding version by Johnny Cash kept ringing in our ears and everything we tried felt inferior. We trawled Nick’s extensive catalogue and landed upon ‘Push the Sky Away’ – an album, and song, we both adore. We recorded it on a day when the weather outside our window was overcast and we were both feeling particularly claustrophobic and flat. It was around day 5 of our quarantine. It felt like a mantra for the day – to just keep on keeping on, to know it would pass. We buried ourselves in our work and it definitely helped. It’s such a simple and small song in many ways, but it contains multitudes, and can be read in many ways. Lukas starts us off with a beautifully haunting acoustic part, based on a version he’d recorded years ago with his UK duo ‘Jacob & Drinkwater’, and we built the track from there. We retained the sparseness and droney soundscape of the original version, albeit using different instruments.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - BERLIN 2008 - Floppy Boot Stomp

SilentWay excels (again?!) over at Floppy Boot Stomp this morning with this towering performance from Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds in Berlin back in 2008

Seems to me like Nick Cave has written the themes for the zeitgeist and how can you listen to anything else at the mo' so the boys at FBS and Voodoo Wagon are excelling at the moment IMHO To parap[hrase Leonard Cohen "You want it darker?"

SW the boss says:

An extraordinary set and performance!!!

Footnote:
I collect versions of the New Orleans classic story 'StaggerLee' since first hearing Mississippi John Hurt's version when but a callow youth and thanks to my brother Steve

It was back in '32 when times were hard
He had a Colt .45 and a deck of cards
Stagger Lee

He wore rat-drawn shoes and an old stetson hat
Had a '28 Ford, he had payments on that
Stagger Lee

His woman threw him out in the ice and snow
And she told him, "Never ever come back no more"
Stagger Lee

So he walked through the rain and he walked through the mud
'Til he came to a place called The Bucket Of Blood

CONWAY SAVAGE

Conway Savage, the long-term pianist for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, has died age 58. Savage was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2017 and died on 2 September, the band confirmed in a statement
The statement continued: “A member of Bad Seeds for nearly 30 years, Conway was the anarchic thread that ran through the band’s live performances. He was much loved by everyone, band members and fans like. Irascible, funny, terrifying, sentimental, warm-hearted, gentle, acerbic, honest, genuine – he was all of these things and quite literally ‘had the gift of a golden voice’, high and sweet and drenched in soul.
“On a drunken night, at four in the morning, in a hotel bar in Cologne, Conway sat at the piano and sang Streets of Laredo to us, in his sweet, melancholy style and stopped the world for a moment. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Goodbye Conway, there isn’t a dry eye in the house.”
