1986: After Traffic finally disbanded in 1974, Winwood launched a solo recording career. He had some chart success with his 1980 album Arc Of The Diver, but his 1982 disc, Taking Back The Night, did not fare as well. In 1986, however, Winwood released Back In The High Life, an album’s whose title accurately foreshadowed what transpired next. The disc sold over 5 million copies, and the single, Higher Love, went to #1. Winwood won 2 Grammy’s for the album, and was truly back on top of the rock world. This concert catches him the height of his solo success, playing a set filled with Traffic classics as well as tunes from his chart-topping album, in Saratoga, on September 7, 1986, 4 decades ago today.
