Folk on Foot - Folk in The City!

The hum of traffic, the echo of footsteps, the rhythm of life — even in the busiest places, music finds its home.

Join Folk on Foot for Songs in the City — a journey through urban soundscapes where some of Britain’s finest musicians bring folk music to the heart of the city.

From Hackney Marshes to Soho’s backstreets, from Liverpool’s community halls to Birmingham’s canals, these performances capture the soul of the city — raw, intimate, and full of character.

🎶 Featuring:
Johnny Flynn – Ghost of O’Donahue (Hackney)
Richard Thompson – Walking the Long Miles Home (Soho)
Jon Wilkes – The Pretty Girls of Brummagem (Birmingham)
Jamie Webster – This Place (Liverpool)
Stick In The Wheel – Four Loom Weaver (Spitalfields)
Frank Turner – The Ballad of Me and My Friends (Holloway Road)
Kerry Andrew – Cuckoo (Brockwell)

🎥 These exclusive performances come from the Folk on Foot on Film Archive, usually available only to our Heroes who support us with £10 a month. To help keep us walking and filming across Britain and Ireland — and to see hundreds more song films — join us today.

EMILY SAYS:

‘Anywhere Away’ was written for Jake Gavin’s directorial debut, Hector. Peter Mullan stars in the title role as homeless Hector McAdam, making his annual journey from Glasgow to spend Christmas at a London shelter, his back story unfolding as his journey progresses. Given the bleak backdrop of homelessness in the UK, the film actually tells a rather uplifting story, highlighting the random acts of kindness from strangers that can bring hope at difficult times. The song also connects with that feeling most of us have faced at one time or another: the feeling that we are being overwhelmed by circumstances out of our control, and the only place we want to be is any place but the one we’re in. Jake Gavin shot this video and edited it together with scenes from the film... The single is available now from my own shop here: https://emilybarker.bandcamp.com/albu... http://www.emilybarker.com http://facebook.com/emilybarkerhalo http://twitter.com/emilybarkerhalo http://instagram.com/emilybarkerhalo
