Nat Myers - another NEW SINGLE coming

On these pages we love Nat Myers and have noted and shared his story of his current battle with cancer and how it is not stopping him from playing and even recording singles . . . while he reflects has he got time to make anew album! (sic!) at this time he has lost his beloved father and we have sent him messages of support and tenderness at this time but today he posts this . . . . . . 

 

"My song New Chauffeur Blues is out in the world today.

This is the third single I’ve released this year. Truth told I’m ready to work on a record. I ain’t a single kinda fella. I was doin singles cuz honestly I didn’t think I’d be alive this long. I can hear some body sayin, ‘why don’t you just do it then?’ And id reply, get me a good producer cuz I am workin on something like a cool deck of cards, like the shadow of a grave in the bare moonlight, the heavy sweetness of your lovers lips at dusk, the smoke that pools at the foot of broken rooms, a fire burning underwater, the disgraced holy roller in the amen corner, the heart beat in the casket that won’t click off. What I’m meaning is, do you get what I’m sayin? It’s the gasp of the gossipers at my deathbed when I rise once again, the white devil who calls himself a black key worryin his charade bout to be torn wide open, justice to bootlickers and yes men, and just reward for the ones who will not be so—the widow combing her dead husband’s hair, the flamenco guitar dreaming of a player’s wrists, the picture of loved ones departed that never fade never linger—I’m workin on somethin good, long-term, and long-form. Fuck a Mario Cart shortcut, we gonna win on the regular. I’m lookin for accomplices, cuz this is high enterprise. It takes a good captain to make a good ship. So let’s do it.

 Now you may recall if you've been paying attention (who ARE you talking to? - ED) that discovering new folks who's music shakes and moves me is one of the great joys of the web and internet social media and today is no exception. You will have noted that I recently bought and featured Nat Myers latest album 'Hobo Wine & Remedy Blues', and featured his staggering title plate Willow Witchin' and stone me and knock me down with a feather but he has done the same tribute to another singer songwriter and shared links to this

It is Willie Watson 'Gallows Pole' (another old, old song and personal favourite, I have a Leadbelly 12 string guitar piece by the master that I cherish)

 NEW DISCOVERY OF THE YEAR

I found this young man and discovered him playing his blues on a Leon Redbone facebook group (sic) the style is unique and plain lovely, the age seems indeterminate but young, young YOUNG and the voice sounds like the stylistic workings of an old blues man several hundred years old. I think he must be the reincarnation of Blind Wille McTell! He sum ole soul . . . . . .

It’s hard to track down Nat Myers. He’s one of those young solitaires you hear before you see. Here’s what the books know: he was named after his great-grandfather, an Indiana dairy farmer. His father, a revenue man, served in South Korea. His mother is from Pusan, a factory worker since she was thirteen. They met, and married, then moved to Kentucky, where the solitaire was raised.

He calls himself an entertainer, but that’s like a dog calling itself a flea. As a performer, he emits, but doesn’t distill, his secrets. He’s self-taught, and it probably shows. His style’s homemade, unplugged. From the start he was drawn to the falsely believed to be forgotten styles. He found those who knew it, busking as a street performer before working into traditional venues.

His biggest gift perhaps is not feigning some bigger picture, or abiding scholarly abstractions or pedantic classifications. He doesn’t play for purists, his music, like him, is half-breed. He plays to the living as well as the dead, tapping the tradition passed down by those who tell him he has right to make something from it. He brings a new relevance to a rage of music that gets dusty before the old folks.
