Nat Myers check’s in . . . . . .

Somebody asked me the other day how our brother Nat (Myers) was doin’! So here’s a lil ditty from his back yard porch!

Nat says:

"Mornin glory y’all. On a backporch this mornin ridin out the torrents of summer. It’s been a good one. Same highs you climb, same lows you go. I been bout everywhere and nowhere at the same time, reminiscing on the many kindnesses of stranger & friend alike. Some might call me curst but I count my stars, crossed or lucky as they are. This one’s called Young Mind Old Soul. You mighta heard me performing it out. I wrote it after Shake it and Break It & I Heard the Voice of a Pork Chop. I wrote some the lines before I got sick and after I got sick. It’s kinda obvious which. Im stoked to say I’m releasing a take of it in a couple weeks. I got scans in a few weeks so I’m just gon be holding it down til September. Be well.

Good to hear from ya Nat!

Nat Myers - News Update!

We follow the fantastic Mr. Nat Myers and visitors here will know something of his plight and struggles with the Big C and the bravery and tenacity which he applies every day. Playing and ‘slanging' toons as he goes - he sends us this frank news and update whilst playing in the hospital for his treatment! Singin’  like a an old blues man being the old soul that he is!

We love the dude, simply as!

Nat says:
"Howdy y’all. I ain’t posted an update about my fight in a while. I been getting back to some aspect of rambling, & some of y’all might think I’m through, or in remission. That’s my fault for not clarifying what’s been going on. My story is a long song, and I doubt it will ever end with ranging a bell. First off, what I got is called intimal sarcoma. The main thing is in my pulmonary artery. If that sounds stressful, it’s cuz it is. I have undergone dozens of chemo infusions since I was first diagnosed in 2025, including red devil, ifosfomade, and until recently a combo called gem-tax. I received eleven cycles of gem-tax, before fluid build up in my lungs last month led us to change things up. A couple weeks ago I started receiving single chemo infusions over a month long cycle, twice a month. My cancer, which shrank significantly at first, is still shrinking, but only slightly, and is considered stable. My doctors seem confident based on my scans that this switch up will prolly work. But when and if it doesn’t, there is a number of successive treatments they have in mind for me. I receive treatment at the James at OSU with Dr. Marium Husain, with help & oversight from Dr Mrinal Gounder & Dr. Alex Kentsis at Memorial Sloan. I am infinitely thankful for them and their teams for the improvement in my outcomes. While I’m still on standard protocol, both the James & MSk have discovered new, treatments that are in the pipeline once standard protocol runs course. A year ago, a lot of y’all were watching me just beginning to hope I could get one more year. A year on, I don’t think you blame me that I want more than just that now. I feel rabid as a dog and bluer than a jay sometimes. It is a privilege beyond description to be here. Every moment, I live life again. I spent too much time filling my veins with bad blood. I am not foolish to the reality this is a long haul, but this thing ain’t killed me fast enough. I mighta been in the bogies, but I’m back to par and I ain’t never going back, if I have my way. But a prayer goes a long way, and I can use all the luck you can spare for all the trouble that come my way"

Nat Myers drops a toon . . . . . . rag it, nah drag it, you know!

Been wondering how young Nat was getting on and his struggles don’t keep a good man down y’all!

Nat say:
"I been learning to trust my past self, because your past self is often looking out for your future self.  Like how the weather was last year, you seem to forget it.  Days like these, forgetting seems like a privilege most of us can’t afford.  I been learning to not avoid discomfort, and that you have to move towards pain sometimes to discover the good in there too.
It took a long time for me to not wake up thinking I was some forlorn hope, a long time to convince myself I ain’t a dead man walking.  I still walk in those shoes at times.  The blues help carry me through.
Early in the morn, before the crack of dawn, in a time of war, with my fingernails cracked and brittle from chemo, writing a ditty that got nothing to do with the heaviness of the world somehow speaks my anguish for all of it.  In Winesburg, Ohio, Anderson writes that at times we have to shut our ears to the roaring of the voices.
As for me, I can’t help but hear em, watching the race continue with or without me.  I had a conversation about a dream someone had: when facing an obstacle, you can go over or under; for me, I go under, I keep low to the ground, below the belt, trusting my gut. Take it from me only way thru a shut time is thru, and even now there is rejoicing even as the barn of the world continues to burn.
But I ain’t no sage, I’m first to admit I’m half a fool, tripping without falling, headed backwards but stepping forward anyway.  Anybody who skated knows there’s a right and wrong way to fall; the one that breaks you, the other that gets you back up for the next try.
So get back up, and try again.
This one’s done like a busted Blind Blake or Buddy Moss joint"

Cool as and as stubborn as mule, I reckon!

Nat Myers - another NEW SINGLE coming

On these pages we love Nat Myers and have noted and shared his story of his current battle with cancer and how it is not stopping him from playing and even recording singles . . . while he reflects has he got time to make anew album! (sic!) at this time he has lost his beloved father and we have sent him messages of support and tenderness at this time but today he posts this . . . . . .

"My song New Chauffeur Blues is out in the world today.

This is the third single I’ve released this year. Truth told I’m ready to work on a record. I ain’t a single kinda fella. I was doin singles cuz honestly I didn’t think I’d be alive this long. I can hear some body sayin, ‘why don’t you just do it then?’ And id reply, get me a good producer cuz I am workin on something like a cool deck of cards, like the shadow of a grave in the bare moonlight, the heavy sweetness of your lovers lips at dusk, the smoke that pools at the foot of broken rooms, a fire burning underwater, the disgraced holy roller in the amen corner, the heart beat in the casket that won’t click off. What I’m meaning is, do you get what I’m sayin? It’s the gasp of the gossipers at my deathbed when I rise once again, the white devil who calls himself a black key worryin his charade bout to be torn wide open, justice to bootlickers and yes men, and just reward for the ones who will not be so—the widow combing her dead husband’s hair, the flamenco guitar dreaming of a player’s wrists, the picture of loved ones departed that never fade never linger—I’m workin on somethin good, long-term, and long-form. Fuck a Mario Cart shortcut, we gonna win on the regular. I’m lookin for accomplices, cuz this is high enterprise. It takes a good captain to make a good ship. So let’s do it.

Bass: Adam Higgins @bassmanwalking
Drums: Chuck Treece @chucktreece
Recorded at @thegreenhouseatlanta w/ Aaron & Rosey Hill @rosey5d in Marietta, GA

Hope you dig"

We do dig Nat, we do!

Nat Myers Performs Two Spirited Blues Tunes | Acoustic Guitar Sessions

Just to keep Nat in the public eye (and hope my constant posts don’t seem virtue signalling or irritate but he is in need of our support) :
Nat Myers is fully absorbed by the blues; the sounds, the stories, the feeling. “There is no music that has touched the chambers of my heart the way that the blues has.” Myers still remembers the first time the blues touched him. As a kid he was driving cross-country with family, his father put on a tape of Carl Martin’s “Old Time Blues.” “I remember thinking, ‘What is this music? What is this song?’ I must have listened to that tape a hundred times in the car.” After studying poetry and teaching himself to play guitar (left-handed), Myers started sharing his own blues, first on the streets, busking in New York City, now touring around the world. Myers stopped by the Acoustic Guitar offices near San Francisco while touring with his latest record, "Yellow Peril." He played intricate, yet driving fingerstyle, on his Mavis resonator from Mule Guitars, stomping along with fervor. In early February 2025, Nat Myers, was admitted to the hospital. What he thought was a lung infection turned out to be multiple cancerous tumors on his heart. If you can spare something, please consider donating to his GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-nat-f... https://www.gnatmyers.com

More on Nat Myers | Nat Myers shows us his hometown in Kentucky, plays "Hobo Wine," // GemsOnVHS™

"This was a recording Tim Duggan and I captured back when we first met Nat Myers in 2022. Not every artist "gets it" when we work together. They try to bring me to some epic stage, or a cool forest, high-tech studio or something in Nashville. They see it as business. Nat, however, understands my work. He is well acquainted with the folk history and styles that I aspire to, the Lomaxs and old blues recordings. He invited us to his hometown, Covington, on the border of Kentucky and Ohio. We hit the pedestrian bridge on a lazy rainy day and let Nat do his thing, picking the blues and telling stories about growing up skating, degenerate friends and his favorite spots. We ate at Wafflehouse. We stayed at his folk's place. His mom made us some Korean food for dinner. This is the kind of stuff I respect. He isn't hiding anything, just being himself and unafraid to show it.

Nat is one of my favorite pickers, left handed or right. He is a bit of a savant at interpreting those old blues tunes, with his own flair. Beyond that, he is one of my favorite people. He is one of the few that stands on his morals and principles, regardless of what it does to his "career". The reason this one didn't come out sooner was because we recorded it in a year he was on Dan Auerbach's Easy Eye Sound label. Nat didn't like that Dan was hanging out with the ever pugnacious Kid Rock. It would've been easy to just stay silent about it, and I would expect most artists would to maintain their label relationship. Instead he decided to say fuck them, and unceremoniously dumped them (or they'd mutually done so together). Honestly, in a world full of performative people who so often will compromise their morality for the almighty $, I don't care if you agree with his move or not, I respect him for it. I can always trust Nat to, whether I like it or not, say what he wants to say. He once called my friend Josh Okeefe "urban outfitters Donovan" on Twitter (they've since made up lol). His first message to me was "why don't you have any people of color on your channel?". It actually led to a thoughtful conversation between us. He is comically blunt, some might say rude. All that said, there are a lot of fake motherfuckers in this business. People who will pretend to be your friend and then dump you the moment they get what they want. Nat is the type of dude who calls me anytime he is in Nashville. Who stops by my house when he is passing through the country just to say hello. Nat Myers is a real dude. Being a musician isn't an especially luxurious life. It can be fulfilling, to create joy for people, make them dance and express yourself through joyous (and sometimes blue) notes. But you don't have security. Hell, none of us, musician or not, have much security in America. When it comes to medical emergencies, its basically a given you're going to be financially destitute, and have your life destroyed. You're liable to die just from the stress of the financial burden. I'm going to go ahead and state the "controversial" part out loud; medical care shouldn't be tied to employment. Universal healthcare is moral. Capitalism and healthcare are not compatible, at least not when it comes to life-saving medicines. The incentives are not aligned. There's an incredibly powerful lobby of wealthy businesses trying to convince you this is wrong, and if you believe them, you're fooled. What's got me thinking about all this? Well folks, Nat has recently been diagnosed with stage IV cancer. If you are able, consider a donation to our friend: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-nat-f... Any and all monetary gain from Nat's work on our channel will be going there.” text from youtube

NAT MYERS APPEAL for HELP

Mo’ Bad News . . . and it just keeps on coming. . . So sorry to hear but Nat (Myers) is struggling in a new fight against Stage IV Sarcoma cancer he announces on his Facebook page and as he lives and works in America his expenses to get treatment are staggeringly formidable. . . if you have enjoyed my posts of his wonderful music please consider supporting his fund me for his care and treatment.
Thanks in advance

I am lucky to report I am headed to OSU to
continue my treatment with the sarcoma team there, not too far from my home in nky.
Doctors of varying humanity had given me days, or weeks to live, and I was told I wouldn’t make it to March, but I live by my odds and not there’s. I’m feelin better than I have since I entered the facility, and am hoping to continue my next step into my recovery and my future as a survivor. Though I feel better, I still feel terrible, and I know it’s just the start still of a hard, long road. I am taking things day by day and conserving and building the energy I need to overcome this affliction. I refuse to speak from the past tense, because there is beauty and life in the struggle I am currently fighting, and I will overcome this. I do not know how long this fight will take, but I know so long as my heart beats I will overcome this.
I have with great reluctance begun a GoFundMe to help with the medical expenses that this fight will be accruing, and I appreciate anybody who can contribute something. THIS IS MY ONLY GOFUNDME, and nobody else has permission to be raising money on my behalf under any other: https://gofund.me/300931ca
Lastly I want to forward all the love I have received since this affliction has taken up my time. Particularly my friends and family in Kentucky, but also this whole world round. I am not so active on Facebook but seeing the outpouring of all y’all to my current predicament…thank you can barely touch my appreciation. I am lucky to be part of such an incredible musical community, and if I can overcome this I look forward to doing my part in return.
With what energy I got, I am trying to respond in turn to all y’all who have thrown your well wishes, reminisces, encouragements, and prayers, it might just take some some time. My energy fluctuates between fatigue and downright exhaustion, but I’m feeling more confident then ever. If not for a cure, than for the potential of more time on this good side where the green grass grows.
Thank you again.

Nat
