I received this in a trade many years ago, late 80's early 90's, it's a SBD recording but not a great one. There is a lot of tape hiss due to the high generation. But since there is very little early Humble Pie, this show is a favorite of mine.  

The story goes on this one that it was recorded by the Dutch Radio Station VPRO during a festival like concert that included Deep Purple and Brian Auger's Trinity and several other bands. All the bands were recorded but the show was never broadcast as a complete concert in any way just as individual songs. 

According to The Highway Star, Deep Purple's Website, the radio station still has the original tapes and was going to release them on there own label but they never did. So if anybody that works at VPRO is reading this, please do me and everyone else a favor, make a copy of this from the Master Reel and post it somewhere for all to have instead of letting it sit and rot somewhere where no one gets to listen to it.

Here's a show from the 1981 tour w/ some bonus tracks from the 1975 tour. Quality is very good (maybe an 8/10) for both shows.

Dates on the attached artwork are wrong, as can be confirmed by checking the track list, which includes tracks from On To Victory.

Tracks 1-8 were recorded in Los Angeles 1981, tracks 9-12 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia 1975.

Also, the lineup for the 1981 shows is not the classic Clem Clempson lineup of the 1975 show (as the artwork infers). In 1981, the band was Steve Marriott/Jerry Shirley/Bobby Tench/Booty Jones.

After the Small Faces and Stevie Mariott's frustrations to get even rockier he formed Humble Pie with the equally legendary Peter Frampton and pals (Shirley and Ridley bass and drums) and Kostas takes a look with his usual thoroughness and diligence. If you don’t know what happened after the Small Faces check this. 

I once saw them at the Oxford Poly as they were on a tour that featured a few label mates like Dr Feelgood and the power went mid set only Stevie could have the lungs to carry on unplugged and with solo guitar and keep us entertained. Awesome powerful voice. I will never forget it!  Plugged in they were LOUD!

Steve Marriott – guitar, vocals, keyboards, harmonica (1969–1975, 1979–1983; died 1991)
Jerry Shirley – drums, keyboards (1969–1975, 1979–1981, 1988–1999, 2001–2002, 2018–present)
Greg Ridley – bass, vocals, guitar (1969–1975, 2001–2002; died 2003)
Peter Frampton – guitar, vocals, keyboards (1969–1971)

Kostas says "A showcase for former Small Faces' frontman Steve Marriott and one-time Herd guitar virtuoso Peter Frampton, the hard rock outfit Humble Pie formed in Essex, England in 1969. Often regarded as one of the first supergroups in music, Humble Pie experienced moderate popularity and commercial success during the 1970s. The original line-up of members featured lead singer/frontman and guitarist Steve Marriott of Small Faces, singer-guitarist Peter Frampton of the Herd, former Spooky Tooth bassist Greg Ridley and drummer Jerry Shirley from the Apostolic Intervention. “          read on follow the links

 

interestingly enough this cover show a more rural Stevie not like his old muck and band make Ronnie Lane who ent on to the Passing Show etc)

Stevie Marriott died in the house fire which destroyed his 16th century Arkesden cottage. 

He was 44 years old.

Reformed!

We can all too easily forget how great a blues rock guitarist Stevie Marriott actually was and here with Peter Frampton who upon his return to the UK talked Steve into reforming Humble Pie for a somewhat short lived tour and venues in the US interrupted by Steve missing home too much it would seem . . . . . the quality of this is really worth checking out and the pub rock roughness is gone and production values show off the two to great effect!

By 1990 Marriott was playing an average 200 gigs a year, when Frampton flew into Britain and asked Marriott to reform Humble Pie to produce a one-off album and a reunion tour. The payment would allow Marriott to take things easier. He agreed, and they flew out to Frampton's studio in Los Angeles on the twenty-seventh of January 1991. They began writing songs, but the project was never completed, as Marriott had a change of heart and returned home. See scans

The Story of Humble Pie - Louder Sounds

Someone dropped by the Mothership (Floppy Boot Stomp) with a note that the second track on this is by Cochise and has Stevie solely on backing vocals only and you know what, it seem he is right. So in researching it everyone who has pushed the bootleg uses this track and doesn't acknowledge it correctly at all so I figure we can be forgiven. It is interesting though  . . . . . . and in hunting around I found the above article which is a doozie for fans of Stevie, Pete Frampton, (what a truly lovely guy! 'the best band I ever played in' he says) and Humble Pie and there's a clip of 'Shine On' from the Stevie Marriott Memorial concert.
