"Former President Jimmy Carter, a man who redefined what a post-presidency could be, died Sunday. He was 100.

His son, Chip Carter confirmed that the former president died at his home in Plains about 3:45 p.m.

Carter, who lived longer than any other U.S. president, entered home hospice care in Plains, Georgia in February 2023 after a series of short hospital stays.

The only Georgian ever elected to the White House, Carter left office after a single term that was highlighted by forging peace between Israel and Egypt, but was overshadowed by the Iran hostage crisis. In the decades after, his reputation grew through his and wife Rosalynn Carter’s work at the Carter Center in Atlanta and his philanthropic causes such as Habitat for Humanity.

“People will be celebrating Jimmy Carter for hundreds of years. His reputation is only going to grow,” Rice University history professor Douglas Brinkley wrote in his book “The Unfinished Presidency of Jimmy Carter.”

Why here? He was a music fan and known Bob Dylan fan (they met several times) and Bobby appeared to endorse him, was my memory

The Death of former first lady Rosalynn Carter

Statement from former President Jimmy Carter on the passing of his beloved wife: 

“Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished. She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.”

Now I always admired Jimmy Carter and felt optimistic when hearing he had become American President, he liked Bob Dylan for pity’s sake!

I love Bob’s response to this. It’s called honourable, loyal and true I believe . . . . . . . . . . 

In the March ’78 Playboy interview, Dylan was asked by Ron Rosenbaum what he thought of Carter claiming to be his friend. 

Dylan’s response was splendid. “I am his friend,” he answered, saying he thought “Carter’s heart was in the right place.” 

When asked if he felt Carter was using him by inviting him to the Governor’s Mansion that night, he replied, 

“No, I believe that he was a decent, untainted man and he just wanted to check me out.”
