Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley Selects 10 Gems From The Band’s Archive - AQUARIUM DRUNKARD

Sonic Youth's Steve Shelly - 10 Gems - Aquarium Drunkard

Sonic Youth played its last shows just over a decade ago. But the band’s legacy lives on thanks to an ever-expanding archive available on Bandcamp. Curated by drummer Steve Shelley and longtime sound engineer Aaron Mullan, the archive swells with live tapes stretching back to the mid-1980s, crucial rarities collections, and stray tracks rescued from out-of-print singles, internet mixes, and random comps. Aquarium Drunkard spoke with Steve Shelley to get his thoughts on a few gems that await listeners.

TEENAGE JESUS & THE JERKS - LYDIA LUNCH - URBANASPIRINES

 Nice profile of

LYDIA LUNCH

over at URBAN ASPIRINES

As per usual the text alone is worth a read over at Urban Aspirines and if you don't know Lydia and her place in Teenage Jesus and The Jerks, no-wave and post punk music than this is the place to find out!

Lydia Lunch (born Lydia Anne Koch, June 2, 1959) is an American singer, poet, writer, actress and self-empowerment speaker. Her career was spawned by the New York City no wave scene in the 1970s, predominantly as the singer and guitarist of Teenage Jesus and the Jerks. Her work typically features provocative and confrontational noise music delivery, and has maintained an anti-commercial ethic, operating independently of major labels and distributors. The Boston Phoenix named Lunch one of the ten most influential performers of the 1990s. Her collaboration with Sonic Youth called "Death Valley '69" was named one of "The 50 Most Evil Songs Ever" by Kerrang!.
