I think the guys at headquarters are on a Elvis Costello kick of late and nothing wrong with that so here’s another set that intrigues from draftervoi. Here his band consists of the brains behind Squeeze and like many I have wondered at the why’s and wherefores to this without really checking. Both Tilbrook and Difford are masters of their own songwriting craft but also fine musicians in their own right, there seems to be nothing in the texts connected to this appearance as to Squeeze playing their own set. So make of that what you will. I am sure it is documented somehwere and I will check the boys website and update when I know more but meantime . . . . . . .

This great and we have posted quite a good bit of SQUEEZE before and they meant a lot to me. Jools has gone on to media and music related stardom via his TV programmes (Later . . . with Jools etc) and has the most eclectic taste in music and is widely acknowledged as one of the nicest men on the scene. Yet Chris Difford and Glen Tilbrook are frequently underestimated a songwriters. I consider them the Lennon & McCarney of the Eighties! Yes really! Also Tilbrook is one of the most underrated guitarist you may ever hear! They played the Ritz in New York frequently over the years and this is a full 92 minute set. It guest stars Jools’ great hero and inspiration Dr John on Mac’s Such a Night. Dr John appreciated the support from Jools and found a kindred spirit in someone who could play the keys as well as he could (sic!)

 Nice one from draftervoi (so the notes say!) via so many roads today and whilst it is billed as SQUEEZE it is really a studio session with Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford only but none the worse for that. 

This is the year of one of my very favourite Squeeze albums 'Some Fantastic Place' but this is by way of a radio interview session around that time and you will want to pick through the tracks after first listens I imagine and thus it isn't the complete album and misses off some of my favourite songs from that era not least the title track (sic!) [presumably these will show up on the next volume advertised for 22 Nov]

Still it is high quality and really worth a listen . . . .watch this space for the next session!

Squeeze 1993 - Same Tour, Different Show Double Play - #1: In September 1991, Squeeze released their 10th studio album, entitled Some Fantastic Place. The disc featured the return of Paul Carrack, who last appeared on their 1981 album, East Side Story. The disc did not reach the top 100 in the USA, though critical reviews were mostly positive, This FM broadcast captures Squeeze on tour in support of Some Fantastic Place in Sausalito CA on November 19, 1991, 31 years ago today. Download this one, then come back on  November 22 for the 2nd half of this Same Tour, Different Show Double Play (see below)
