PADDY KEENAN 1950–2026
It is with great sadness that we mark the passing today of Paddy Keenan, one of Ireland’s most gifted and influential traditional musicians and a master of the uilleann pipes.
Born into a renowned Traveller musical family, Paddy carried forward a rich tradition of Irish music while forging his own unmistakable style. As a founding member of the legendary group The Bothy Band, and through his celebrated solo career, he brought the sound of the uilleann pipes to audiences around the world.
His powerful playing, remarkable technical ability, and deep understanding of Irish traditional music inspired generations of musicians and helped secure the uilleann pipes a central place on the international stage.
We will remember the musical career and lasting legacy of Paddy Keenan in a forthcoming edition of Irish Music Magazine.
