'Where The Crawdad’s Sing’ closing theme : ‘Carolina' - Taylor Swift

From a film I watched last night 'Where The Crawdad's Sing’ Taylor Swift’s theme at the closing

Taylor Swift - Carolina (From the film “Where The Crawdads Sing”

lovely song and sung with such a sensitive and broad vocal range I have perhaps misjudged her!

I didn’t really enjoy the film somehow and found it too clean like a pop video. Everyone’s so pretty and CLEAN! Crawfish live in MUD! As do the Everglades and swamps! Platoon or Deliverance this ain’t!
The wonderful Daisy Edgar Jones is an interesting casting choice here and does better than I thought at first but the two boys are so unfeasibly handsome and she is so lovely there seemed a lack of authenticity we found in films like ’Nell’ with Jodie Foster or ‘Mud’ with Matthew McConaughey that also featured the producer here, in Reese Witherspoon! I saw both these films again this year and found them more authentic and less ’pretty’
Crawdad’s Sing DID affect me and the ending whilst laboured reduced me to tears as I am sure it was meant but overall I found it deeply flawed.

What did of course grab me and made me sit up was this lovely closing song from our Taylor, beautifully sung and with a vocal range that I was not aware she possessed!

BLUE NILE - BODY & SOUL [40 Hidden Music Treasures at The BBC]

This band featured on a late night TV programme here about rare or secret videos on the telex on BBC2 (40 Hidden Music Treasures at The BBC) and the best band I found on there was these guys The Blue Nile which according to the programme were name checked by Taylor Swift in her last album as a reference to her ex-boyfriend Matty Healy (The 1975) who its said introduced her to the music
Amazing what power such billionaire’s weild! Here with this song Body and Soul from a Jools ‘Later’ performance in 1996

still I agree and they are well worth name checking!

INTERESTING READING : Taylor Swift at The Super Bowl | N.M. Ramirez: ROLLING STONE

Why MAGA fears Taylor Swift at the Super Bowl | Salon.com)
Nikki McCann Ramirez at the Rolling Stone

documented how MAGA influencers kept claiming the Super Bowl is “the Democrats’ Taylor Swift election interference psyop” and the Super Bowl is “totally scripted” to “elect Joe Biden WW3 will likely follow in a 2nd Biden term and millions will die.”

…If that sounds like a cult leader feeling threatened by the outside world, well that’s no coincidence. The Swift hatred resembles the argument that cults and other high-control groups make to their followers: cut off all contact with the outside world, abandon everything that gives you joy and pleasure, and dedicate your entire life to the cult’s ideology. Trump and his henchmen sound like David Koresh or Warren Jeffs for a reason. The MAGA media system, wittingly or not, leans heavily on a favourite tactic of cult leaders: painting the outside world as a threat. Paranoia and alienation are a cult leader’s best friends. After all, if the followers discover people outside the group are normal and happy, they might start questioning the cult leader and seeking ways to escape. So it’s best to make them afraid to even look out of their own windows.

JUSTIN HAWKINS RIDES AGAIN! [Podcast, YouTube and Facebook]

I’ve just discovered a new podcast and new (to me) video blog from the excellent Justin Hawkins (he of The Darkness) discussing all things pop and music generally. I found it on the Facebook (sic) ha ha ha . . .and I really enjoyed listening to him expounding thereon.

I though at first it might be a bit negative as the first clip I played seemed really aggressively anti (who needs that right?) but he explored Maroon 5 being (rubbish!) and also something about Liam Payne (sic) is he from One Direction?! ( Now I like Harry Styles from them and have enjoyed the fact that that boy can really sing! (honestly he CAN!) but I didn’t quite GET what he was saying about Liam who is friends with Lewis C and I was a bit put off but then he went on and I thought oh heck he is going to have a pop at Taylor Sift and I was pleasantly surprised but not only his musicianship but his anecdote about listening to her new single and then an earlier album that had come ‘back’ around thanks to his daughter playing it at home and them both listening to it together and see . . . . . . its all a delight! As a major dramatic rocker par excellence who would have expected him to be pro The 1975, Taylor Swift and Lewis Capaldi!? Not me!

He is at once uncritical appreciative of musical talent and hard work and everything creative an egoless talent!

Fun right?
. . . . . . . . . . . now he goes on to reflect upon 1975 (he likes them Matty Healy especially! my daughter will be doubtless pleased to note) and apart from Harry, Matty and 1975 and Taylor he seems to be a fascinating cove who is more than capable of shining a light on their songwriting, singing and I like listening to him play. I think he is lucky enough to have perfect pitch (witness his playing along with Taylor and working out the key she is playing and singing in)

He also mentions with a deep and affectionate regard for Lewis Capaldi which we like and reflects upon Lewis’ use of ostinato* (I know right!) and here are some links to the Facebook entrees below and we finish with the Lewis reflection

*Ostinato is used in music to describe a musical phrase or rhythm that is repeated persistently. The repeated pattern could be a melody, a figure in the bass – called a basso ostinato or simply a repeated rhythmic idea
