DESERT ISLAND DISCS
ROBERT PLANT
Desert Island Discs for those visitors who may not know, (who ARE you talking to? ED) is a British radio institution invented by a radio journalist presenter called Roy Plomley back in 1942 (I kid you not!) and has been going on almost relentlessly except for the war (sic) and is currently presented by the brilliant Lauren Laverne and today's guest was Robert Plant. The premise is that you are stranded on a desert island and can take 8 tracks (what we used to call records!!!) and one luxury item, plus a book as well as being granted a Bible (of all things) plus the complete works of Shakespeare!
Now I expected Robert's choice to be odd a bit weird and his history is a wonderment and musical influences sheer magic but the selection here is really odd in that it is sort of really boring and again for once and a rarity includes his own more recent work (with Alison Kraus) which I think ought to be forbidden. He is a lovely man and always fascinating to hear him talk and there was a profile on him where he came off almost as completely bonkers but that's why we love him. Here not so much and theres't any real musicologists choices nor did it seem like legitimate favourites, Really fascinating to hear about his upbringing as always and yet the musical selection was really staid somehow . . . . . . perhaps it was MY mood and not his but where the real esoteric African sourced music? The real roots Blues? A better Rock N Roll choice? Where the Incredible String Band and where some dark Americana?

Supposedly he loves Elvis but I see The King was not invited to the island
So far I'm having fun with this. Thanks to "Teenage Dogs In Trouble" for showing me this site. If you have the time might I suggest (to your readers) if you wanna play rock critic check this site out.

Ooooh thanks Jobe! Great shout out for the album generator will check that out today!
Interestingly Plant did mention Elvis though choosing a 'rare' (read 'really strange choice' of 'Pink Pegged Slacks' by Eddie Cochran as stand in for any Presley - go figure as you might say) a rockabilly number instead was odd to say the least and he cited an actual meeting with the King and told us a tale about whispering to Elvis what his favourite King song was (I Love You Because!?) which prompted the man to hang from a door frame and sing it to him!?!?!?? Yeah sure Robert!
Even the Beatles when they got to meet the King ended up less than impressed as his time was over and inches away from becoming the Nixon Narc he truly aspired to being!!! - He brought Nixon a gun FFS!
Aaaaanyhoo . . . thanks for this bro Jobe (BroJo?)
Always welcome, always helpful, always inciteful!
Laters potaters!
Ooops I meant 'Love Me' by Presley that Plant said was his go to Elvis number and that he alleges the King sang to him hanging from a hotel door jamb?!!!

Revolver by the Beatles! Why that'll do nicely I thought!
