DAVID BOWIE - A London Boy in New York - FLOPPY BOOT STOMP

 O  ★  E

This just in from Floppy Boot Stomp and brother Jobe shares a real  treat and read what he says about quality as, like him, I tend not to post links to audience recordings anymore (so spoilt am I?!) but there are exceptions

this four disc set of his four night residency in New York in 2000 is one of them

Janis in Record Mirror 1969 +

Janis Joplin at the Hotel Chelsea in New York City, 1970. Photo by David Gahr.

Joplin was described by Record Mirror in 1969 as “a kind of mixture of Lead Belly, a steam engine, Calamity Jane, Bessie Smith, an oil derrick and rot-gut bourbon, funnelled into the 20th century between El Paso and San Francisco”.

As she told an interviewer: “Man, I’d rather have 10 years of superhypermost than live to be 70 sitting in some goddamn chair watching television.”

And she continued: “People aren’t supposed to be like me, make out like me, drink like me, live like me, but now they’re paying me $50,000 a year for me to be like me.”

“She was portrayed as this loud, Southern Comfort-drinking girl – and she definitely loved to have fun – but like so many women she was trying to find herself,” says Berg, who says that she fell in love with the singer as she learned more about her.

“She enjoyed the high of it, and she enjoyed what happened to her on stage when she was giving the audience everything she had inside, but she had a really hard time with trying to balance the high with the mundane aspects of life and finding the right people to balance it out with.”

-Edward Helmore

Janis and Peggy

The Peggy Caserta story is worth pursuing but the first book 'Going Down With . . . ' is largely not written by Caserta but was issued to fund her then drug habit of some substantial degree, she later went on to try to correct this scurrilous nonsense. Janis was certainly nothing if not bisexual and sought warmth companionship and sexual relationships wherever she found them but Caserta was a confirmed lesbian and couldn't cope with Janis' sexual predilection for men when it arose.

NEIL YOUNG :: Homegrown (upgrade) - soniclovenoize

 HOMEGROWN

(UPGRADE)

Albums That Never Were - HOMEGROWN - Neil Young

Albums that Never Were has upgraded his effort at recreating the missing (well now not!) Homegrown Album. We have listed the first blast here and Sonic Love Noise has spent time to upgrade the project and his notes and details as ever are always worth a read

as he says:

This an oft-requested upgrade of one of my favorite albums that never were. This is a reconstruction—actually, more of a re-imagining, really—of Neil Young’s famous unreleased 1975 album Homegrown. Originally meant to be released in 1975 as the proper follow-up to On The Beach, it was shelved in favor of the more electric and immediate Tonight’s The Night. While the album was finally released in 2020 as a part of The Archive Volume 2 project, many fans complained that the album was not what they had imagined or what it could have been; some even seemed to like my own reconstruction better than the actual release! So this is an upgrade to my original reconstruction using the newly-released sources, swapping some tracks for others to make Homegrown actually live up to it’s own hype as the stark, acoustic record that was the successor to Harvest.

Tom Waits - Thought For The Day and "HOLD ON"

Tom Waits: “Sometimes it’s hard to separate the two identities”,  “I may exaggerate a little onstage, but I’m not trying to be anyone else but me. I try not to be compromising and condescending. I talk about things I know about. Deep down inside there isn’t a man wearing a leisure suit."

“I live in a run-down hotel—the Tropicana. All room rents paid in advance. The other people who live there are four-speed automatic transvestites, unemployed firemen, dikes, hoods, hookers, sadists, masochists, Avon ladies on the skids, reprieved murderers, ex-bebop singers and one-armed piano players. The whole gambit—lock, stock, and bagels."

Sounds of The Day! - KC and The Sunshine Band 'Get Down Tonight'

Pretty depressing out there and so . . . . . . . .

Harry Wayne Casey started disco group K.C. & The Sunshine Band back in 1973.
"Get Down Tonight" is their very first hit released in 1975. It is one of the tracks of their self-titled album KC and the Sunshine Band. The song became widely successful, becoming the first of their five No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100.
It also was an international chart hit, reaching No. 1 in Canada and charting in Australia (No. 44), Belgium (No. 11), the Netherlands (No. 5), and the UK (No. 21).
This clip was recorded especially for Toppop on 5 September 1975.

Happy birthday to Salt - Push it real good.

This one for my old pal and colleague Phil M . . . only he will understand how funny this is but . . . . . .

It's Salt's birthday!  born as Cheryl James New York on this day in 1966. That means she 56!
Get up on THIS!

PUSH IT!
PUSH IT REAL GOOD!!

EMERY BLAGDON : : Inventor/Healer?

 BUT IS IT ART? . . . . . . . . . . . .

possibly not but it looks like it . . . . . .

The self proclaimed healer-inventor Emery Blagdon: Blagdon spent decades working on constructing what he called healing machines in his Sand Hills shed in Nebraska. The 800 square feet shed was completely packed with his invention-sculptures,  and Blagdon firmly believed that his pieces created an electromagnetic field that could treat various diseases.
When asked to explain, he would simply say - “I don’t know why it just works.“

which in my book is short hand for it doesn't! . . . . . . . . . .

Pink Floyd - Disgusting Hardly Music (RE-BOOT) FLOPPY BOOT STOMP (Jobe)

Must have missed this over on the Floppy side . . . . . . . .

PINK FLOYD - LIVE IN City Hall SHEFFIELD 1970 - Floppy Boot Stomp

Brother Jobe says:

I remember when "Dark Side Of The Moon" came out. I also remember how many of my friends gushed over it. To me, it was alright, but I never thought it deserved all the accolades it got. I thought it was just a metaphor for all the cool kids to let you know that "Yeah I smoke weed" but will keep it on the down-low and listen to DSOTM. I still think "The Wall" is overrated when you consider it's a double album with about six actual "songs" I do love "Wish You Were Here" though. I like the "song side" of "Meddle" but never listen to "Echoes" (not enough time) Which brings me to "Atom Heart Mother" it is still my favorite PF record. My favorite cut on AHM has to be "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast" from the first time I heard it I loved it. I can smell the bacon frying, the sound of the corn flakes being poured into the bowl, and of course the faucet drip, and from what I understand original pressing's of the vinyl have the faucet drip go on into infinity if you did not have an automatic turntable. I'll bet right now somewhere there is some acid casualty, sitting with his headphones on, who is now a pile of bones, still wondering what is leaking??? That brings me to this boot. It is not of the sound quality that I normally try to post. But in a way it's kind of a historical document. When you read the scans you'll see it is the only time they performed it live and captured on tape. (Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast) One other thing I don't see this posted a lot. I know over at "The Wagon" my last post was yet another PF boot, but hey it's always been about you and what I think you're looking for. However on numerous occasions I post what I like in hope that you'll listen to it and hear what I hear and like in it.

and you know what? I agree! hence my posting . . . . . check it out

Song of the Evening II - Guy Clark : : L.A. Freeway - O MY SOUL

Guy Clark - L.A. Freeway

with thanks as ever to O MY Soul

Clark featured singing on Nanci Griffith's Other Voices Other Rooms and he was one of her favourite 'country' songwriters. The guy was a master at writing the country steeped in the universal truisms and poetry but never quite made it on his own and didn't seem to travel well so we only discovered him here in Europe through covers by others [he wrote Desperados Waiting For A Train that featured as did he on Griffith's Other Voices Too] . . . . . both sadly lost to us now (Clark died in 2006 and Nanci we lost at 68 last year having beaten cancer twice before) and both are always worth checking out

Pack up all your dishes

Make note of all good wishes

And say goodbye to the landlord for me

That son of bitch has always bored me

Throw out them L.A. papers

That mouldy box of Vanilla Wafers

Adios, to all this concrete

Gonna get me some dirt road back streets

I can just get off of this L.A. freeway

Without gettin' killed or caught

Down that road in a cloud of smoke

To some land I ain't bought, bought, bought

And it's, here's to you, old Skinny Dennis

The only one I think I will miss

I can hear old bass singin'

Sweet and low like a gift you're bringin'

Play it for me one more time now

Got to give it all you can now

I believe every thing you're sayin'

Just to keep on, keep on playin'

I can just get off of this L.A. freeway

Without gettin' killed or caught

Down that road in a cloud of smoke

To some land I ain't bought, bought, bought

And you put the pink card in the mailbox

Leave the key in that old front door lock

They'll find it likely as not

I'm sure there's somethin' we have forgot

Oh, Susanna, don't you cry, baby

Love's a gift that's surely handmade

We got somethin' to believe in

Don't you think it's time, we're leavin'?

I can just get off of this L.A. freeway

Without gettin' killed or caught

Down the road in a cloud of smoke

To some land I ain't bought, bought, bought

If I can just get off of this L.A. freeway

Without gettin' killed or caught

Down the road in a cloud of smoke

To some land I ain't bought

So pack up all your dishes

Make note of all good wishes

And say goodbye to the landlord for me

That son of bitch has always bored me

Thank you

Here's a little song for y'all that might ever

Pounded any nails for a livin'

Or at least just hit your thumb a couple times

That counts too
