1981 The Indie Scene - The Story Of British Independent Music - URBANASPIRINES

 This is fun!

another great article and another compilation of early Brit Pop of Independents following on from the previous one that covered 79/80 this continues into 1981

As per usual thanks to Kostas over at Urbanaspirines this compilation features:

Aztec Camera, The Higsons, the wonderful Young Marble Giants, The Birthday Party and gals like Toyah, Hazel O'Connor and several one hit wonders like Department S' Is Vic There? to Pigbag's 'Papa's Got a Brand New Pigbag' (yes seriously!)

I
note that I saw The Higson's live at a College ball in Oxford and went with a dear friend from my MOMA days who had been at UEA with Charlie Higson amongst others so bought the single when it came out out and long before Charlie became one of greatest comedians and comic writers without equal. The band were hysterically brilliant as I recall

Paul & Charlie . . .

The Indie Scene 79/80 - The Story Of British Independent Music - URBANASPIRINES

Loads of interesting stuff being posted in the last 24 hours or so and lots of it various stages of Britpop!

Not least this in depth analysis of British Independents from 1979-1980 from Kostas over at Urbanaspirines. Really worth a read and checking out . . . . . from Lene Lovich to Madness, The Fall and The Rumour, The Beat and Echo and The Bunnymen besides more obscure figures and bands like The Adicts, The Comsat Angels and Nightmares in Wax (sic?)

I bought the 12" single of Lene Lovich 'Lucky Number' when it came out
