KEVIN AYRES

I used to really like Kevin Ayers and through my fascination with Eno and the Velvet's, Nico and John Cale especially, found the collaborative album - June 1, 1974 - fun and when it came out it was never off the turntable for a long long time but I missed this article in The Word and it is truly worth a read. Stranger in Blue Suede Shoes to Shouting in aBucket blues and that rich plummy deep DEEP voice. I knew when Ayres passed away there was something haunting about his story and his reclusive behaviour but if ever a talent was not to live up to expectation it is truly Kevin who we know was pursued by his demons so that his star was not allowed to shine as bright as it might . . . . . . .

with thanks to the Italian blogger Hellaberada at Music Italy 70 who shared all this material
