BONNIE RAITT

Now we're talking and yes I did buy this one when it came out. This period is IMO Bonnie at her very best and a run of albums that reflect her newfound health and creativity from 'Nick of Time' through 'Longing in Their Hearts' and a live album 'Roadtested' that stands still as one of my favourite album but my very favourite of all  time in her 'Luck of The Draw which doesn't have any filler tracks and is a peak if you ask me, she was on fire in this period after getting clean and sober (by '87 and crediting Stevie Ray Vaughan for her recovery) and after being dropped by Warner Bros cleaning house period (when they also dropped Van Morrison from their roster!?!?) she then steps it up a notch and releases several of her very best albums ever . . . . . .

On this day in music history: March 21, 1989 - “Nick Of Time”, the tenth album by Bonnie Raitt is released. Produced by Don Was, it is recorded at Ocean Way Studios, Capitol Studios, Hollywood Sound in Hollywood, CA, and The Record Plant in Los Angeles, CA from Mid - Late 1988. Her first album for new label Capitol Records, it follows nearly two decades with Warner Bros Records which produced several critically acclaimed but modest selling albums. Working with Was (Not Was) bassist turned producer Don Was, he assembles a group of top notch musicians including members of Raitt’s own touring band along with studio veterans including Ricky Fataar (drums) and Paulinho Da Costa (percussion) as well as other guests such as Herbie Hancock (keyboards), John Jorgenson (guitar), and David Crosby (background vocals). It initially gets off to slow start but gains momentum throughout the year. The album wins three Grammy Awards including Album Of The Year in 1990. It spends three weeks at number one on the Billboard Top 200, topping the chart exactly one year after making its debut. In 2001, the album is remixed and released as a DVD-A disc, with a new 5.1 surround mix, also featuring the original stereo mix. Issued on vinyl on a limited basis back in 1989, it is remastered and reissued as a 180 gram LP in 2014. “Nick Of Time” is certified 5x Platinum in the US by the RIAA.
