Somebody asked me over the weekend whether all the trouble in Israel started in 1948 and I found this really helpful. It’s really much earlier of course but it also indicates why the whole situation is so complex and difficult to resolve. One thing I can add of course is that violence and war never solved anything. Only through talking has peace ever been achieved. What happens in between is the slaughter of the innocents; men, women and children. The masters of war never bear the brunt of any conflict ever it is the civilian and the eternal soldier who faces the inevitable

There is currently a debate live on Radio Four here including Netanyahu’s predecessor and some one said “There is a path to Peace. . . . indeed you may say there is ONLY a path to peace!”
