Jimi’s funeral pallbearers 1st Oct 1970

Dave Anderson, James Thomas, Steve Phillips, Eddy Howard, Donny Howell, and Herbert Price were pallbearers. All childhood friends apart from Price who was Jimi’s last driver. For some reason I get great comfort from it being a small unostentatious rather typical family funeral and that he was taken to rest by his childhood friends that the family got what THEY wanted and it was all the more respectful for that. Don’t know why it occurred to me today but it did

I'm surprised Janie isn't one of them or even in this picture

It was step sister Janie who was behind the monetising of his disinterment to rebury him in a more ostentatious way that incurred such disappointment from the ex-band members and ex-girlfriends who rather preferred he was allowed to R.I.P! Though a quiet family affair word got out somehow (ahem) and over two hundred fans showed up and yet they all seem to have behaved admirably and showed respect at what could have descended into chaos. She doesn't come over well but I guess the estate has capitalised on the matter ever since . . . . .
