Seen here in happier times . . . .young and flowering to his peak here. . . . .
Jean-Michel Basquiat photographed by Andreas Sterzing in his studio, 1986.
Perhaps more than so many artists I find myself affected so much by his loss. I wish someone had been around to help him and guide him he always seems so vulnerable and the death at such an early age means we were robbed of a burgeoning talent way too soon . . . . . . his studio was fall of sack fulls of dope it is alleged when he passed and his drug consumption became intolerable. It is said he started mainlining heroin after the death of his close friend Andy Warhol where previously he had only smoked it but either way it claimed another stellar talent way too early.N.B. It is NOT romantic to have joined the 27 club!
