SONG OF THE DAY: RICHARD THOMPSON : Siggy’s Song (BBC Radio 2’s 21st Century Folk)

something to lift the spirits?  . . . . and of course if you listen to one song today MAKE IT THIS ONE!

Richard Thompson - Siggy’s Song (Radio 2’s 21st Century Folk)

Richard Thompson performs ‘Siggy’s Song’ to the man who inspired it.

Richard wrote the song for 21st Century Folk, Radio 2’s series that sees five people have songs written about their lives.

Siggy came to London from Barbados in 1962. He began working on the railways, and playing cricket, as soon as he arrived. At the age of 85, he still works at a train station, and he still plays cricket!

With thanks to Siggy’s teammates at Holtwhites-Trinibis Cricket Club in Enfield.

To hear Siggy’s full story, find 21st Century Folk on BBC Sounds:

Produced by Pomona Audio for the BBC.
