Bobby Whitlock: (18-03-1948 - 10-08-2025)
nice tribute to Bobby Whitlock ( albeit just through a one off project with Clapton) from Kostas at Urbanaspirines if anyone doesn’t have access to the Derek and Dominos material it is worth reflection here quite how much he influenced the work here . . . .
Kostas says:
Robert Stanley “Bobby” Whitlock (March 18, 1948 – August 10, 2025) was an American singer, songwriter, and musician renowned for his role as a keyboardist and vocalist in the blues-rock band Derek and the Dominos, Though he's best known as a member of the short-lived but groundbreaking group Derek and the Dominoes with Eric Clapton, Whitlock has had a very impressive musical career. Raised in Arkansas and Memphis, by the time he was a teenager he was playing on many of the sessions at the legendary Stax Studios and was in fact the first white artist signed to Stax Records. With a soulful voice soaked in gospel, R&B, and blues and accomplished keyboard skills, it was only a matter of time before the limelight found him.Upon seeing him perform in a Memphis Club, he was asked by Delaney & Bonnie to join their band. Whitlock began a friendship with Eric Clapton when Delaney & Bonnie and Friends toured with him and would soon be part of Clapton's Derek and the Dominoes project.
