Jack Kerouac, Big Sur
A favourite Kerouac book it haunted me and still does somehow. I was a curmudgeonly little awkward squad (as my parent’s called me) so didn’t read On The Road first but rather The Subterraneans and then The Dharma Bums then followed with On The Road and then I found a copy of The Town and The City (his first novel) and as an art student a City Lights edition of Book of Dreams which I took to our poetry group at college to have a dream diary session. I came to 'Big Sur' late and it hit me for six in its beautiful descriptions of the land, the countryside and the sea around that coastal part of California
