Robert Frank checking his negatives in the Dark Room
The master . . . . .Robert Frank and again we have mentioned him before but I will never not post these from his classic book on Americana and if you find a first edition buy it!
Gary Lucas is nothing if not as eclectic as me! He notes on his Facebook page that there is a strong Robert Frank connection with the Groobin’ Stooves from movies to stills and album covers!
"Stones clip directed by Robert Frank ("The Americans"), who also art-directed the "Exiles" album. They are having a city-wide Centennial Retrospective of Robert Frank's work here this month and Fri. night at Anthology Film Archives I caught "Candy Mountain", his road film (kinda) co-directed with Rudy Wurlitzer featuring cameos by folks like Eric Mitchell, Mary Margaret O'Hara, Tom Waits, Joe Strummer, Dr. John, bulle ogier, David Johansen and other illuminaris.
This was followed by a coupla short films about Harry Smith by Frank--and also a full-on byootifully restored Harry Smith opus entitled FILM NO. 14 (LATE SUPERIMPOSITIONS) that was one of the most hypnotically gorgeous abstract films I've ever seen."
Thanks Gary!
