PAUL SIMON at 80
A master of his art, Paul Simon is 80 today! Graceland introduced me to the music of the diaspora of Africa for which I shall be eternally grateful and yet also he wrote a song as a much younger man stood on Widnes railway station about being lonely in a strange place that resonated a spit from where I was born. I followed all of his work from early on with Art Garfunkel. He, like the Beatles, seemed to have written the soundtrack to many of our lives, mine included. This version of The Boxer is at once still haunting and mysterious. A work of a genius. Happy Birthday Maestro!
