So Many Roads

SpeedyMJB says:
The Who 1982 - Back to Back - #1: The Who were yet another of the legendary rock bands who went on hiatus for a large part of the 1980s. In the fall of 1982, The Who launched a 40 date tour of the US and Canada to support their latest album, It’s Hard. On December 14, during their 2nd show in Richfield, Ohio, Pete Townshend announced that it would be their last concert in the US. It clearly appeared that The Who was calling it a career. As a result, their performance on December 17, 1982 was broadcast on both FM radio and Pay Per View TV as the general perception at the time was that it would be the final concert ever. Of course, despite calling this their farewell tour, the Who eventually returned to touring in 1989 and haven’t stopped. Even as I type are playing live shows during their 50th anniversary tour. This soundboard recording captures them early on in their 1982 tour, on October 20, 1982, 39 years ago today. Download this one, then come back tomorrow for part 2 of this Back to Back entry.

* all these recordings do not, despite artwork, feature Keith Moon of course but replacement drummer ex-Faces Kenney Jones. It is worth noting that Pete wished to stop touring and having only just completed his heroin cure as promoted by Meg Patterson (largely acupuncture based) he may have needed to rest
