Info From Around the Interwebby Thingamabob! | For Ringo’s 83rd Birthday! This . . . . . . . . .

“You wonder how long you’re going to last. You could be big headed and say yeah we will last for 10 years. But once you say that you’ll think you’re lucky if you last 3 months.”

John Lennon

“The thing John and I will probably do is continue to write songs.  Who knows in a few years we may not know how to write songs anymore.”

Paul McCartney

“I hope to have enough money to go into a business of my own by the time we do flop. And who knows. It may be next week or it may be 2 or 3 years. I figure we will be in the business either up here or down there hopefully for another 4 years.”

George Harrison

“ I’ve always fancied having a ladies hairdressing salon. A string of them actually. Asking the clients if they would like a cup of tea. That’s my dream once this ends.”

Ringo Starr

All 4 of these above quotes were taken in early 1963 just as The Beatles were beginning to experience success in the UK. They obviously were pondering how long their wave of success was going to last, figuring it would all eventually end within a few years.

It’s not surprising that they felt this way. Especially with their families and those around them probably telling them the exact same thing which was to save money and think about what to do long term once this was all over.

Coming from the Provinces of England all four Beatles had a realistic view of their success. They were told over and over for years that four young men from Liverpool didn’t have the sophistication or culture to compete with the whole London scene of the music world. Even saw it first hand when Decca records chose another group over them (Brian Poole And The Tremeloes) because they lived in London and the Beatles didn’t.

Thankfully for us they had a belief in themselves and the will from their Liverpool roots to prove that with determination and hard work they could accomplish what so many others said they couldn’t. Also being surrounded by the likes of Brian Epstein and George Martin as driving forces to make it all happen.

60 years later The Beatles just didn’t last. They became the most successful, influential, and iconic band of all time. And are the ultimate example that it doesn’t matter if you’re from New York, London, Liverpool, or North Dakota. If you have talent, the willingness to work hard, and the drive to keep going (even when others tell you you’re not good enough) you truly can accomplish what you strive for.
