EDGAR ALLAN POE

SPOKEN POEMS & TALES
I mean apart from the master gothic poet I had to post this for the cover by another favourite artist in Ralph Steadman

VA - Closed on Account of Rabies, Poems and Tales of Edgar Allan Poe [1997] (2 x CDs)

A hauntingly unique spoken-word tribute to the literary genius of Edgar Allan Poe. Released by Mercury Records, this double-CD compilation features an eclectic mix of artists interpreting Poe's iconic works through readings and performances. Produced by Hal Willner, the album captures the macabre and mysterious essence of Poe's writing.

CD1 includes chilling renditions such as Christopher Walken's reading of "The Raven" and Iggy Pop's gripping performance of "The Tell-Tale Heart." CD2 continues the eerie journey with Jeff Buckley's haunting "Ulalume" and Gabriel Byrne's evocative "The Masque of the Red Death." The album also features contributions from Marianne Faithfull, Deborah Harry, and Diamanda Galás. With Ralph Steadman's striking cover art, this compilation is a fitting homage to Poe's enduring legacy, blending literature and performance art in a truly unforgettable way. (B)
