Peter Hammill: 1971 - 1981 The First Decade | URBANASPIRINES

Peter Hammill: 1971 - 1981 The First Decade (10 albums surveyed)

Again as you may have come to expect bu an extraordinaryily thorough profile of Pete Hammier of Van Deg Graf Generator. I was never much of a fan to be honest (despite having seen VDGG live!) but this is essential reading for any fans of a true British legend!

Kostas says:

Peter Joseph Andrew Hammill (born 5 November 1948) is an English musician and recording artist. He was a founder member of the progressive rock band Van der Graaf Generator. Best known as a singer-songwriter, he also plays guitar and piano and produces his own recordings and occasionally those of other artists. In 2012, he was recognised with the Visionary award at the first Progressive Music Awards. While studying at Manchester University, Hammill met drummer Nick Peame and keyboardist /saxophonist Chris Judge Smith (who had just returned from studying at the University of California in Berkeley); the trio formed the first version of Van Der Graaf Generator, though Judge Smith left when the band began to tour in 1968, andPeame left in 1969.

RealIy is prog rock at its peak for sure but I am not a real fan of the school especially the British explosion of so called progressive rock but I do appreciate Hammill’s place in music history!
