 TOOTS!

In London 1974

It is a hard day to hear 'Toots' Hibbert has died after recent news of his ill health and being tested for coronavirus although no announcement has come as to cause of death as yet. He was only 77 and it feels like he was always with us.  He spoke to the media only last month to say "Stay Tough" against the health challenges people faced with the virus. Later we heard he had been rushed into intensive care.

I heard Toots first on a compilation album that included Sweet and Dandy and always adopted it as it sounds like my name! Loved that song and it is a comic legend. His back catalogue is a list of anthems for many '54-46 That's My Number' 'Funky Kingston' and 'Monkey Man' and 'Time Tough', latterly 'Irie' and it was 'The Harder They Come' soundtrack we first took him to our hearts. But he could ring the changes on classic from pop and even country (Take Me Home Country Roads!). He and The Maytals released a new album only last month!

His label tweeted the following:
